Miller Felpax Receives Governor's Certificate of Commendation
-
Miller Felpax, a manufacturing business with deep roots in
the Winona community, won a governor’s certificate of
commendation for its efforts to create a positive
workplace and for its community involvement.
The annual award is part of the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce’s manufacturing week, which highlights local manufacturers and promotes manufacturing jobs in schools and universities.
The Chamber endorsed Miller Felpax by a unanimous vote.
Company vice president Randy Skarlupka received the award at a lunch ceremony Tuesday.
“I want to thank the Chamber and others for this recognition of us doing what’s right,” Skarlupka said. “This doesn’t happen by accident.”
The company, which manufactures rail car components and other rolling stock, was spotlighted because of its involvement in recovery efforts after August floods and its support of “Ready, Set, School,” a program that ensures area children have adequate school supplies.
Miller Felpax was started in 1935 in Winona by Rudy Miller as a way to support the rail industry in Winona.
Skarlupka said the company hopes to continue identifying needs in the community, working to help muster resources to fill those needs and making Winona a better place to live and work.
Previous governor’s award-winners include We-no-nah Canoe, Schwab, Thern Inc. and Peerless Chain.
